Rabbi Corngold was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. A Phi Beta Kappa magna cum laude graduate of Williams College, he worked in the publishing and medical education industries as an editor and writer for 10 years before beginning his rabbinic education. He studied at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Jerusalem, Los Angeles, and New York, where he was ordained in 1999. While attending HUC-JIR, Rabbi Corngold served as a student rabbi at Congregation BÍnai Israel of Butte, Montana; Temple Shalom of Yakima, Washington; and Congregation Or HaTzafon in Fairbanks, Alaska; and was a rabbinic intern at Temple Judea, in Tarzana, California; Temple Sinai of Summit, New Jersey; and the Jerusalem Campus of HUC-JIR. Rabbi Corngold will be busy with each part of our Temple family. In addition to leading Shabbat, High Holy Day and Family Services, he will be officiating at Life Cycle ceremonies, visiting our sick congregants and serving as a counselor to those in our community. Working with our Temple leadership, he will be a regular presence in our Nursery School our Religious School, and in our Upper School, a teacher of adult education and an active supporter of our Sisterhood and MenÍs Club. Rabbi Corngold has become the fifth spiritual leader in Temple Emanu-El's eighty-year history, succeeding Rabbi Paul Joseph, Rabbi Stuart M. Geller, Rabbi Emeritus, and Rabbi Harold I. Saperstein zÍl. He looks forward to continuing the synagogueÍs long history of dynamic rabbinic leadership and providing the spiritual direction and creativity to answer the needs of the congregation and community for the 21st century.
